The Belgian authorities have decided to expand the list of antiquarian requirements on the eve of New Year and Christmas holidays due to the proliferation of omicron. This was announced to reporters by Prime Minister Alexander De Kroo.
In particular, from December 26, the work of most entertainment establishments will be suspended. These include cinemas, theaters, concert halls and casinos. Christmas markets in shopping centers and galleries will also be forced to close. The only exception will be fairs in the squares, but even there the organizers must ensure social distancing for visitors.
In addition, in 3 days, the work of all stores will be limited. No more than two people are allowed to enter the room at a time. Thus, the authorities expect to avoid crowds and resist the spread of the coronavirus.
Finally, catering establishments will be able to receive guests only until 23:00. At the same time, holding mass events in closed rooms is prohibited.
“We are getting more and more numbers and new information about the distribution and dangers of the omicron. We need to be more careful than ever. We must contain the spread of the virus, ”the Prime Minister explained the new requirements.
Nevertheless, the government decided to abandon the lockdown after the introduction of similar restrictions in the neighboring Netherlands. The country obliged citizens and tourists to isolate themselves until January 14, and all shops and entertainment establishments must go on New Year’s holidays without fail.
