The heat wave has led to severe weather warnings for a third of the US.
According to local media, the ongoing heat wave will affect approximately 200 million Americans in the next few days. At least 28 states have been issued heat warnings. Authorities are urging people to look out for their neighbors, especially the elderly, and check on them to make sure they’re OK, BNR said.
In Texas and Oklahoma, the temperature exceeded 46 degrees.
In particular, at least 18 wildfires have been reported in Texas, threatening at least 1,000 homes.
Nationwide, 90 fires were reported in 13 states on Wednesday. Hot weather will persist on the East Coast through the weekend. In the US capital and the region around it, the heat index is expected to be between 38 and 41 degrees today.
