While the rest of the countries on the list have shown a willingness to close to the Russians, Turkey remains formally open. But representatives of the airline said that its flights from the city of Zhukovsky Moscow region to Istanbul and back from March 1 to 25 will not be performed. The airline planned to operate 8 flights a week.
According to Turkish media, the essence of the situation is as follows. After European airspace was closed to Russian airlines, leased aircraft owned by Russian airlines began to be confiscated by their owners. One of the first to be detained in Istanbul was a Boeing 737 liner of the Russian airline Peremoha, en route from Mineralnye Vody to Istanbul.
“The seizure was carried out at the request of the landlord in connection with EU sanctions. Ireland has invited 10 Boeing 737 passenger planes, which have been leased to Victory Airlines by the Irish Airlines. As a result, the Turkish aviation authorities prevented the departure of the liner from Istanbul to Russia.
