Ordinary everyday clothes can cause unpleasant delays for female tourists at airports. Even a small mistake in the choice of women’s wardrobe can cause tedious checks by the security service. This is an underwired bra.
As reported by The Sun, wearing underwired bras during flights can send false signals of danger to airport staff. Scanners at airports most often respond to metal inserts in this item of underwear, which will certainly require additional checks for travelers before boarding the plane. To avoid such situations, Glamor magazine advised replacing bras with a rigid frame with softer options, for example, sports bras.
The warning came after several female travelers spoke of problems passing through security at some airports around the world, which, as it turned out later, were delays related to this particular model of the bra. So, one of them was quoted by Travel Fashion Girl magazine: “When I was traveling in Europe, I was checked for a bare bra or a sports bra. I’ve been searching at every airport for the past seven weeks. Another traveler added: “It makes me angry. At the same airport in Ethiopia, I was frisked three times as I went through each checkpoint. This is simply unacceptable.
What to do if the sensor at the airport has been activated and the security service has notified the need for an inspection?
If a female tourist is faced with a similar situation, female security personnel should search and take care of the traveler. First of all, travelers should be informed that the signal may have been triggered precisely because of an underwired bra. “If you’ve had an alarm go off and you think it might just be because you have a metal insert in your bra, then tell the female security officer. She’ll probably use a handheld metal detector to check it out first. It can then prevent the need for a manual search, and you will have every right to request that it be done in a private area. At the same time, you will not be asked to undress.”
It is important to note that bras are not the only item of clothing that causes people to be unnecessarily detained by security guards at the exits. For example, a former employee of the transport security service Jasmine Washington talked about another wardrobe item that should be avoided to avoid problems at airports. We are talking about shoes because not every type is suitable for a quick security check.
“Flip-flops, slippers, ballet flats, and crocs are my favorite travel shoes because they are easy to put on/off and allow me to get through security faster. And don’t forget to wear socks because you’ll have to take your shoes off, and having socks will help you do it faster.”
