Tourists in Phuket were forbidden to swim in the sea due to heavy rains and the appearance of dangerous waves. According to the warning issued by the branch of the Meteorological Department of Thailand and the Southwest Meteorological Center (TMD), from July 30 to August 2, the island and neighboring provinces of the Andaman coast are expected to experience heavy rainfall and increased wind waves up to 3 meters high.
According to Phuket News, the period of adverse weather conditions and heightened danger began today, July 30. Heavy downpours are known to have hit Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, and Krabi.
“Due to heavy rains and harsh conditions, caution should be exercised. Wind waves in the upper Andaman Sea will increase, reaching 2-3 meters in height and more than 3 meters in and near thunderstorm areas. All vessels should exercise caution and avoid navigation in areas of thunderstorms. Small vessels in the upper Andaman Sea should stay away,” the message said.
Because of the dangerous conditions on the beaches, mainly on the west coast, red flags have been erected prohibiting swimming. Vacationers are advised to enter the sea only in areas marked with yellow and red flags, where lifeguards are on duty.
We remind you that swimming in the sea during the rampage of the elements is extremely dangerous. Just two days earlier, the lifeguards of the popular Patong Beach published a video of a wonderful rescue. And the next day, a group of other rescuers received a message that a search and rescue operation had been launched for another tourist who had disappeared while swimming at Svoboda Beach, located southwest of Patong. It is better to wait out the bad weather than to risk life, they noted. After all, instead of a beach holiday, you can explore other interesting places on the island, such as museums, temples, markets or shopping centers.
