According to the Indonesian portal Antara, the authorities of the island of Bali will deport tourists for paying for goods and services with cryptocurrency. This was stated by the governor of the island Wayan Coster.
According to him, “Foreign tourists who behave inappropriately, violate visa restrictions and other regulations, use cryptocurrency as a means of payment, will be severely punished.” Under strict measures, Koster means deportation, large fines, and criminal punishment.
The reason for this statement was an investigation by the Kompas portal, which showed that some restaurants, hotels, car rental services, and other organizations in Bali accept payments with cryptocurrency.
The governor of Bali recalled that the only legal tender in his country is the Indonesian rupiah.
