Authorities on the Indonesian island of Bali have banned tourists from using mopeds. This was stated by the governor of the resort Vayan Koster, reports Bloomberg.
“Bali is fed up with uncontrolled drivers. Foreign tourists will not be allowed to use motorcycles to move around the island after a series of accidents that led to injuries and even death,” the report says.
According to the governor, due to the “uncontrolled driving” of tourists, there was a series of accidents that led to injuries and deaths.
“They are outrageous and misbehaving. From now on, foreigners should use only those modes of transport that are prepared by tourism services and meet all standards,” he added.
Coster has sought support from the Justice Department to allow Bali to revoke visas if foreign tourists are seen riding motorcycles or if they commit other offenses such as working illegally or misusing residence permits.
