Istanbul airport welcomed a foreign tourist with an original exhibition of paintings. However, when she found out what materials became the basis for creating portrait masterpieces, she was shocked. She talked about it in her blog.
It was clarified that the exhibition “Zero Point”, represented by ten paintings in the waiting rooms, is the work of the Turkish artist Deniz Sagdych. The main materials for creating masterpieces are garbage and waste collected at the Istanbul airport: cardboard bags and tags, pieces of clothing, wires, bottles, soda cans and caps, balloons, microchips, buttons, garbage bags, rubber gloves, napkins, old uniforms employees, etc.
“Probably, each of you has left something at the airport at least once, be it a hat, scarf, gloves, or phone chargers. Many people, to avoid the advantage of a suitcase in the literal sense, throw out unnecessary things from it, which can include not only clothes but also various packages, bottles, and other objects, without thinking about their fate and the harm such actions can cause to harm nature,” said a traveler who visited the exhibition. The event’s main goal is to show the importance of sustainability and environmental friendliness in the world.
Background: Deniz Sagdych is a 41-year-old Turkish artist born in Mersin. She is known for her unconventional view of art. In particular, she created works from denim fabric. Her works have won high praise from critics.
