The “dirty crime” is being investigated by the French police. A tourist – as it turned out, a former British policewoman – was raped under the Eiffel Tower when she decided to relieve herself in the bushes. The suspect has already been detained. However, as Parisien reports, this is not the first time this has happened – and there is one obvious reason.
According to the publication, the 23-year-old English tourist herself contacted the police and filed a rape complaint at the police station. It all happened shortly before midnight on the Champ de Mars. A young woman, a little drunk, was with a friend when she needed to go to the toilet and went into the bushes. There a man attacked her and began to rape her; the tourist tried to fight off, but they threatened her with a knife. The attacker achieved his goals and escaped. At the same time, the victim told authorities that she was a British police officer and came to Paris for two days with her friend on vacation.
The suspect was detained an hour later and he matched the description of the tourist.
“This guy is quite unbalanced,” the police commented to the publication.
But the problem is that the Englishwoman is far from the first victim of tourists on the Champ de Mars. In July, a Mexican tourist was attacked by five men, another tourist was saved only thanks to the intervention of a local merchant, and a couple of months before, two Brazilian women and a tourist from Canada were attacked.
“Is the Champs Martius the territory of sexual predators?” – the publication asks a question and, citing experts from the police, names another non-obvious reason. In addition to the fact that most of the attacks occur at night, when, firstly, it is quite gloomy on the Champ de Mars, and most tourists are already slightly relaxed and “submissive”, there is another “anecdotal reason”. “The question to ask is where are the toilets? They exist, but they are not enough. As a result, drunk tourists go to urinate in secluded places, convenient for hidden intruders. After all, if you are a drunk woman, you can find yourself in a vulnerable position in a matter of seconds,” they assure.
Meanwhile, the scandal with the “werewolf in uniform” is being examined by the American press and justice. In the resort state of Florida, a tourist crossed the road in the wrong place, for which she was raped by a police officer. The policeman was detained – but law enforcement officers are investigating whether there were other victims on his account. It went like this: A Clearwater Beach Police Department officer was arrested after stopping a tourist for jaywalking early Sunday morning and then demanding her sexual favors. The police officer, Nicholas Paloma, 29, was on duty in Clearwater Beach on the night shift. He stopped a 32-year-old woman as she crossed the road at a roundabout at about 2:30 a.m. He told the woman that she had crossed the road and could be charged with hooliganism. Paloma then told the tourist to get into his car and she got into the front passenger seat, telling the tourist he would take her to a hotel and “made efforts to deny our ability to track his car.” The officer then drove the victim to various locations in Clearwater Beach for approximately 30 minutes, had sex with her, and then dropped her off down the street from her hotel. Moreover, the police arrived at the hotel not at the call of a tourist, but at the sound of a scandal – the victim had quarreled with her friend over whether it was worth filing a complaint against the policeman.
