“Strict punishments” are planned in India for the disgusting behavior of café and restaurant employees. Under threat of these penalties, they are now prohibited from urinating on food sold to tourists and spitting on it. What is most alarming is that these measures are being considered in one of the country’s most popular tourist states.
The decision comes from the authorities of Uttar Pradesh, where the Taj Mahal is located. “The government of Uttar Pradesh, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, intends to introduce two new regulations aimed at combating unsanitary practices,” Indian media reported.
They clarify that these measures are specifically in response to recent scandals involving instances of spitting and urinating in food served to tourists. These incidents have been recorded on video in several cases. One such instance involved a teenager from Saharanpur, who was captured on video spitting on bread later served to customers. The video went viral in September, ultimately leading to the arrest of the diner’s owner.
It’s also reported that men were detained in Noida and Ghaziabad, other cities within the state, who had been caught adding urine and saliva to fruit juice. Details on how this was discovered are not provided.
According to the new regulations, tourists and other consumers will have the right to “complete transparency regarding the preparation and handling of their food.” The state government emphasized that “strict punishments” will be imposed on those who violate sanitation standards, though specific penalties have not yet been disclosed.
