The shark that tore apart a Russian tourist (read details here) is most likely a “recidivist” – it has already attacked tourists in the past and the year before last.
This information was presented by the Egyptian mass media, which reported the reassuring news that at least the killer shark was caught and researchers will understand what happened to the predator, which made it purposefully hunt people.
As explained by the head of the nature protection sector of the Egyptian Ministry of Environment, Mohamed Salem: “Sharks can attack people, but in normal cases, once a shark bites a person and finds that it is not from its known natural food sources, it does not continue the attack. If the shark continues to attack people, it has a defect.”
As the experts added, the “tiger” shark is one of the well-known and common species living in the Red Sea, but the aggressive behavior towards humans is surprising for this predator. At the same time, it has already been assumed that this particular shark was most likely behind two previous attacks off the coast of Hurghada and Marsa Alam last year and the year before. Now the killer shark has been captured to be dissected and explain the cause that led to the imbalance that caused it to see humans as its food source as opposed to nature. Normally, tiger sharks feed on crustaceans, fish, birds, turtles, dolphins, and even cubs of their own species and other shark species.
At the same time, local fishermen have already named a terrible reason why sharks attack people. The fact is that they were accustomed to the easily available production from ships moving through the Red Sea.
