The Swiss railway company Rhaetian Railway has set a world record by launching the world’s longest passenger train. According to Renato Fasciati, director of the Rhaetian Railway and organizer of the voyage, it was timed to coincide with the 175th anniversary of Swiss railways. The record is reported by the Associated Press.
The train is 1.9 kilometers long and has 100 wagons. The train passed through the Alps from the town of Preda to the town of Beryun. The previous world record for the length of a train was set in 1991: 1732.9 meters. The route, passing through 22 tunnels and 48 bridges, including the single-track Landwasser Viaduct, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008.
The trip lasted a little over an hour. It is reported that 150 people became passengers of the train.
