The world’s largest passenger plane Airbus A380 (registration VH-OQH) with a kangaroo on its tail unexpectedly landed at Baku Airport on December 23.
This plane of the Australian airline Qantas was supposed to deliver hundreds of passengers from Sydney to London with an intermediate landing in Singapore, instead, it landed at the capital airport of Azerbaijan.
The Baku airport reported that the crew of the giant plane made this decision because the smoke detector in the cargo compartment was triggered. This is a dire situation – if the smoke is accurate, it can turn into a fire and lead to a disaster. Therefore, landing for inspection must be carried out at the nearest airfield.
The pilots discovered the problem while flying over Georgia. Due to the dimensions of the plane, they could not land in Tbilisi, so they turned the aircraft back and successfully landed in Baku. Here the Australian A380 was met by firefighters.
In the capital of Azerbaijan, the passengers of the emergency flight were accommodated in hotels, the press service of the Baku airport reported.
A few hours later, another aircraft of the same type with registration VH-OQD left Sydney to replace A380 VH-OQH. On the evening of December 24, he already arrived in Azerbaijan.
While specialists find out the cause of the smoke detector, a replacement plane will take passengers from Baku to London.
