The Ver. di union has called on ground staff at Germany’s largest airline, Lufthansa, to leave the job for a day and go on strike on February 7 over a pay issue, Euronews reports.
The union is demanding a 12.5% pay rise, or at least an extra €500 a month for nearly 25,000 staff, including check-in, aircraft maintenance, maintenance, and cargo staff.
The strike will begin on Wednesday at four o’clock in the morning and affect airports in Frankfurt am Main, Munich, Hamburg, Berlin, and Düsseldorf. The action will last 27 hours until Thursday morning.
Passengers with booked flights on these dates will be informed of the cancellation and rebooking options on Monday, February 5 from approximately 16:00 by email or via the Lufthansa app.
If flights are canceled at short notice and no alternative flight is available, the airline will allow passengers to convert their ticket to a Deutsche Bahn train free of charge.
