The official schedule for the abolition of coronavirus restrictions was presented in Thailand. The main thing is that the Covid-19 pandemic itself the kingdom expects to declare an endemic disease by July 1. Although testing, masking and social distance activities are ongoing, this is short-lived.
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said that Covid-19 was still a pandemic, and the relevant agencies were ordered to closely monitor the Omicron BA.2.2 sub-variant, which was recently discovered in Thailand. “Before moving to the endemic phase, it is necessary to conduct a thorough review and assessment,” said the Prime Minister.
The “schedule” for ending the pandemic is as follows: a “plateau stage” has been announced from April to May, where Thai experts hope the number of new Covid-19 infections will remain stable, with no outbreaks. It will be followed by a “Stage of Decline” with a reduction in infection and mortality, and then this stage will move to the “Post-Pandemic Stage”, when Covid-19 will be considered endemic rather than pandemic.
“I hope from July 1 onwards, and if all goes well and the numbers and situation go as planned, we will move on to consider coronavirus an endemic disease,” said Thai experts.
