According to Radio Télévision Suisse, ski resorts in Switzerland are at risk of being left without lifts this winter.
So, the authorities of the country can oblige resorts to reduce electricity consumption by 20%, which will lead to the shutdown of equipment, primarily lifts and snow guns, since they consume as much electricity as 40,000 residential buildings a year.
Laurent Vauchet, head of Téléverbier, the country’s largest ski lift operator, said the move could lead to lower tourism revenue and job losses.
Among the alternative ways to save energy, it is proposed to reduce the speed of the lifts or stop some of them at night.
