Post Office Travel Money’s annual family holiday report has revealed Europe’s cheapest summer holiday destinations as Britons grapple with a cost of living crisis.
Bulgaria and Turkey top the list in a new report that reveals the cheapest tourist hotspots for Britons battling a cost-of-living crisis reports the Mirror newspaper.
The Breach Barometer report produced jointly with travel company Tui found spending on 12 essentials including family food, drinks, sunscreen, insect repellant, and beach gear, from buckets and paddles to lotions, ice cream, and water boat rides. by bike, both directions are around £86.
The report shows that local prices in Marmaris have doubled since the summer of 2019, although the collapse of the Turkish lira has since helped reduce this effect.
According to the barometer, Ibiza is the most expensive (around £186), followed by Apulia in Italy (around £185). Since 2019, however, prices have fallen in both Ibiza and Puglia by 4.9% and 5.2% respectively.
The biggest rise in prices was seen in Crete, where it rose by 37.7%, where the 12 products priced now cost around £161.
The report also showed that almost three in five families (59%) are planning a trip abroad this year, but more than three-quarters of them (76%) went over budget by nearly 38% on their last holiday, spending an extra £243 with an average budget of £644 they set.
