Spain is beginning to roll back its tentative restrictions in preparation for the summer tourist season

The slightest easing of harsh “antique” measures gives tourists hope that in 2022 they will be able to return to Spain. So far, only European and British – because for Ukrainians, Spain is still closed, like all of Europe. But the situation may change. Moreover, many experts predict that the main obvious restrictions will be lifted in most countries as early as 2022, and Spain will be no exception.

Indeed, the Spanish regions have begun to repeal some of the strictest “antique” rules. At least some of them. Thus, the region of Catalonia, which includes the city of Barcelona, has confirmed that the night curfew will be lifted. Introduced on Christmas Eve by the city, the curfew lasted from 1:00 to 6:00 due to a sharp increase in the number of cases of Covid. Interestingly, there are currently more cases of the disease than in the holiday period – 200 thousand new cases in seven days compared to 138 thousand in the period from December 31 to January 6. But the level of hospitalizations is low, which the government attributes to the abolition of restrictions. Other rules remain in place, including closing nightclubs and limiting meetings to 10 people.

At the same time, other parts of Spain are imposing stricter restrictions due to Covid, especially on the islands. This applies in particular to Tenerife, where pubs and restaurants are due to close at midnight, as well as other Canary Islands. The resort of Benidorm also suffers – 50% of hotels have closed due to the measures taken. However, weakening inspires a ray of hope.

We will remind, earlier DIP reported that “In Spain the terrible number of hotels went bankrupt“.
