ParrotPrint photo experts named seven places popular among tourists where it is forbidden to take selfies.
According to The Sun, travelers may be fined for violating the ban.
7 popular tourist locations where selfies are prohibited
1. Zoos of New York. Citywide, it’s illegal to take photos with any big cats at zoos, carnivals, and circuses, and any offenders caught will be fined up to $1,000. The ban was introduced in 2014 due to the increase in the number of “tiger selfies” – thus its initiators wanted to stop the exploitation of animals.
2. House of Jewels, Tower of London. The ban was introduced for security reasons, and its compliance is monitored by both security guards and CCTV cameras.
3. Pamplona, Spain. This city is known as the venue for the infamous “Race of the Bulls”. Anyone caught taking a selfie with the bulls will be fined €3,000 for breaching safety regulations.
4. Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam. The famous museum banned both selfies and other photos on its territory. They said that constant photography interferes with the enjoyment of art.
5. Sistine Chapel, Vatican. Selfies and any other photos are also prohibited here. The thing is that the Japanese Nippon Television Network, which 1980 financed the reconstruction of the chapel, set as one of the conditions the presence of exclusive rights to the photos inside.
6. Saudi Arabia. In the conservative Muslim country, photography is prohibited during the pilgrimage to Mecca, which is considered disrespectful as people make the holy journey and act of worship.
7. Lake Tahoe, California. Tourists are not allowed to take selfies here because of wild animals. Local authorities imposed the ban due to concerns that people might get too close to the bears in the area to take selfies.
As previously reported by DIP, selfies are among the most common causes of death for tourists on vacation, and in Brazil, a tourist fell into Iguazu Falls while taking a selfie, details here.
