Russian tourists massively cancel bookings in Crimean hotels for the summer period. This was told to journalists by the president of the National Union of the Hospitality Industry (OSIG) Alexei Volkov.
According to him, the reason lies in the mailings that several airlines have made at once this week. In particular, Aeroflot and Ural Airlines warned passengers that in June the carriers would not be able to operate flights to Simferopol Airport, where there is now a flight restriction, and canceled already purchased tickets for flights to Crimea.
Alexei Volkov explained that because of this, at least 10% of tourists canceled their hotel bookings for May-June. The depth of bookings in the hotel sector for July-August still remains at the level of 40-60%, but this is due only to the hope of travelers for the resumption of the work of the air complex of the Crimean capital.
The head of OSIG also noted that many tourists are ready to go to the resorts of the region and by train in the absence of air traffic, but Russian Railways simply does not have the opportunity to fully cover the shortage of transportation to the peninsula. “There are no tickets for June, there are no tickets for May, it is not clear how we are going to close this task,” the speaker concluded.
