According to the Russian “Turprom”, a tourist from Russia will soon be in the resorts of Egypt as a rare guest, who was not even at the time of its closure for Russia, but in the “dashing nineties.” German tour operators are already actively trying to take places in the best hotels in Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh: in the 90’s they held a ball in the resorts of Egypt – then Russian tourists were left with only “no food” from the Germans, ie unclaimed hotel rooms . Now, after the actual departure of Russian tour operators from Egypt, the situation of the disaster of the 90s may be repeated (read about this departure in the article “Tourists to Turkey and Egypt closed for Russian tourists“).
And indeed, already now the places of Russian tourists began to be actively filled by Germans. There are no more Russians – and all hotels in Egyptian resorts are now de facto in the hands of German tour operators, as was the case in the late 80’s and early 90’s, when Egyptian tourism was equal to tourists from Germany and partly from Italy. (mostly Italians go to Sharm el-Sheikh), because they were the main generator of tourist flow.
Now Egypt’s tourism has returned to the distant 90’s, when there were few Russians, and now they are no longer perceived as a serious tourist flow due to the war in Ukraine with consequences. At least, the German media give this assessment: “Egypt, like Turkey, will look forward to Russian guests who would like to rest there in the warmth of sanctions, special operations and the fall of the ruble. But this is unlikely to happen, “- said on the sidelines of the Berlin tourist exhibition ITB. Most likely, mass resorts will have to tighten optimistic forecasts and estimated revenues from the return of Eastern European holidaymakers. “They will have to be written off for a very long time,” German media say.
“But this will probably make the holidays there more favorable for us,” – German experts do not forget to add. Another reason for Egypt’s projected popularity with the frugal German tourist is that “cumbersome flight routes” to Southeast Asia due to blocked airspace and high prices for gas and other fuels will reduce the number of tourists on long-distance routes. And in the absence of Russian tourists, hoteliers will be extremely interested in Europeans.
