The Thai government is expected to allow vaccinated tourists to visit Phuket without the need for quarantine starting in July.
Deputy Prime Minister Supattanapong Punmichaou said that the Center for Economic Situation Management (CESA) today will consider the opening plan, approved by the island’s business operators.
According to Supattanaponga, the meeting will be chaired by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, and the plan could serve as a model for the process of opening up other tourist provinces.
Local businessmen and communities agreed that the island province could reopen to foreign tourists.
Yutasak Supasorn, governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), said the opening plan would largely depend on the spread of vaccines to the Andaman Sea.
He said that collective immunity should be ensured by vaccinating 70% of the population before foreign visitors are admitted to the opening date.
It is alleged that the plan includes a vaccination proposal indicating the number of doses required and the timing of vaccination suitable for the safe reopening of the tourist island.
