The world’s most closed country may soon reopen to Russian tourists. We are talking, of course, about North Korea. At least, according to the official data of the tourism agency of the Primorye region, the authorities of the region and the leaders of North Korea are developing an agreement on cooperation in the field of tourism. This means that the borders between the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China will be opened again.
It should be noted that before the covid pandemic, Russian tourists wishing to visit this exotic country, at least residents of Vladivostok, could come to the DPRK only as part of a tourist group since an independent visit to the country is impossible. The trips were organized by Russian travel agencies that received accreditation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the DPRK. However, since 2020, the country has “closed for covid” and has not yet reopened. Flights between Vladivostok and Pyongyang have also been suspended.
According to information from the Tourism Agency of the Primorsky Krai, the agreement provides for “the exchange of information about existing tourist routes, the development of new ones, cooperation in the development of tourist infrastructure, the organization of events in the field of tourism, including industry exhibitions and conferences, as well as other areas of cooperation in the field of tourism “. The department plans to sign an agreement with the Department of Foreign Affairs of the General Administration of Tourism of the DPRK. The date of possible signing has not been specified.
