The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) on Saturday warned that areas from the north of the country to northern Upper Egypt and Sinai would experience a sharp drop in temperature, with snow forming on St. Catherine’s Heights.
They also warned of late night frosts in some areas.
The cold snap will last until February 2, the report said. In most provinces, some areas and days of precipitation are possible, and on Sunday in the areas of the west coast and South Sinai, winds will periodically increase.
Fog is expected in the morning on some roads leading to Greater Cairo, Lower Egypt, the northern coast, Suez Canal cities, central Sinai and northern Upper Egypt.
Cold weather prevails during the day in Greater Cairo, Lower Egypt, on the northern coast and in the northern part of Upper Egypt, moderate in the south of Upper Egypt, warmer in South Sinai, and very cold at night throughout the country.
On Friday evening, a wave of bad weather hit some provinces, causing rain and flooding of some streets.
In Alexandria, after relatively stable weather conditions, a cold snap hit the coast of the governorate, accompanied by heavy rain and a sharp drop in temperature.
In the North Sinai city of Sheikh Zuwayd, light and intermittent rain fell amid a wave of severe cold and frost that affected every aspect of daily life.
And in the cities and villages of Minya governorate, a wave of frosts and lower temperatures continued. Two separate fires were extinguished in the towns of Minya and Magaga as a result of an electric heating short circuit.
