Cards of Russian tourists have stopped working abroad: vacationers complain that they can not pay and withdraw cash at ATMs. We are talking about Turkey, Egypt and other areas where most Russians are concentrated. The reason is that the international payment systems Visa and Mastercard have previously announced that Russian banks, which are under EU and US sanctions, have suspended their participation in the system. The blockade, which took place on February 26, affected both the possibility of cashless payment via Apple Pay and Google Pay, and withdrawals at ATMs. The information came not only from banks, but also from angry tourists, who leave numerous comments on social networks.

The following banks received similar notifications of sanctions: Oschad, VTB, Otkryttia, Radkombank, Promvyazbank, Novikombank, Gazprombank, Promvyazbank, Bank of Russia, Industrial Savings Bank, Black Sea Development Bank, Genbank, VEB.RF. The degree of blockages imposed on banks was unequal: some meant disconnection from the Western payment system, while others did not.
As the Russian woman noted in a blog on the Yandex.Zen platform, this change has already been fully felt by Russian tourists staying in Turkey: vacationers are faced with a refusal to issue funds at ATMs and non-cash payments. Now travelers are “twisting” who can. At the same time, withdrawal from the cards of other banks is still available abroad. For example, the sanctions did not affect Tinkoff Bank. Tourists can withdraw money at ATMs of other banks that are not violated by sanctions.
