Riots in Sri Lanka have reached the point where protesters took control of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s residence. For tourism in Sri Lanka, all things considered, dark times have come, because the country is in default and there are widespread riots. So it is pointless to hope for the return of foreign tourists to Sri Lanka shortly.
According to local media, a crowd of people overcame the barricades in front of the president’s residence, climbed over the fence, and seized the territory. According to the publication Ada Derana, which refers to sources in the National Hospital of the city of Colombo, during the riots, at least 30 people were injured. The president is called to resign, and anti-government marches are spreading. However, where to get money for food and gas – if not from tourists – is not clear.
We will remind you that one of the last attempts of the current leadership of the country to resist was a request from the President of Sri Lanka, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, to Putin for the urgent supply of fuel on credit and the renewal of the tourist air service between Moscow and Colombo. He asked for this in a conversation with the President of Russia. But for now, tourists will not be allowed in that direction.
