After the tourist refused to appear before the Phuket authorities, a special operation was carried out on the resort island to capture him. The special forces called to help detain several people instead of one: Indians and a Russian, Phuket Info Center reported on social networks.
The incident occurred on October 26 when four immigration police officers arrived at a villa near Bang Tao Beach. They had in their hands a warrant issued by the Phuket District Court for the detention of an Indian citizen on charges of intimidation and harassment of foreigners.
In response to the demands of law enforcement officers, one of the guards came out with a bat and injured two policemen.
The SWAT team arrived and stormed the room in which the suspect had barricaded himself. According to some reports, his assistants had firearms.
In total, about three dozen security forces took part in the operation. Instead of one person, five were detained as a result. One of them was a 33-year-old Russian tourist. It is unknown what he was doing in the company of Indians; the Thai police are investigating. So far he has been charged with overstaying his visa by 60 days.
