Japan Airlines had to operate an additional flight due to sumo wrestlers who created an advantage on board, JapanNews reports.
The athletes were scheduled to travel on two planes from Tokyo to Osaka to participate in a large sports festival. Both aircraft were Boeing aircraft with a capacity of more than 150 passengers.
The airline carried out calculations and concluded: that due to the weight of the “unusual” passengers, the planes would not be able to take with them the required amount of fuel. Thus, 14 sumo wrestlers had to be “landed” and sent on a special flight.
According to the airline, the situation is classified as rare.
