An American tourist, who in his explanation assured that he “didn’t understand where he got to,” paid a serious fine for violating Italian laws and driving through a famous Italian landmark. He paid a fine of 500 euros for going over the world-famous Ponte Vecchio bridge in Florence.
The bridge over the Arno River, the “initial version” of which was built back in 996 and then was rebuilt several times, is allowed to be crossed on foot. The city is trendy among tourists – it connects the Pitti Palace with Republic Square.
However, a 34-year-old man, as it later turned out, an American tourist, crossed the bridge in a rented Fiat Panda car. As a result, he was fined for violating the ban, as well as for driving without an international driver’s license. The total fine was 540 euros.
The tourist assured that he did not understand where he got to and ended up on the famous medieval bridge. He was just looking for parking, the tourist added. It should be noted that Ponte Vecchio is built on two sides with shops, covered on top and usually filled with pedestrians.
We remind you that this is not the only scandal involving a motorist. Last May, a tourist from Saudi Arabia drove down the famous Spanish Steps in Rome in a luxury Maserati sports car. A 37-year-old foreign tourist was charged with causing damage to the city’s cultural heritage and monuments under aggravating circumstances. Read details at this link.
