A plane passenger spent more than 100 minutes locked in a toilet after the door lock malfunctioned.
According to The National, the incident occurred on a SpiceJet flight from Mumbai to Bengaluru. After removing the seat belt warning sign, the passenger headed to the toilet and encountered a problem: the toilet door jammed and he was trapped inside. The crew’s attempts to open the door were unsuccessful.
Rescue came only after landing at Bangalore airport when engineers arrived to fix the problem. After his release, the man was sent for medical examination due to the possible consequences of psychological stress. In an attempt to ease the tense situation, the crew wrote a note and passed it under the toilet door.
“We have tried our best to open the door. Don’t panic, we will land in a few minutes. Please close the toilet lid, sit on it, and stay safe. An engineer will come as soon as the main door opens. Don’t panic,” it said.
SpiceJet expressed regret and emphasized that the crew provided the necessary support and advice during the passenger’s lockdown. In addition, he was fully refunded the cost of the ticket.
