On the Indonesian island of Bali, they came up with an unusual way to bypass the ban on tourists climbing the mountains. Local guides did not want to lose their profitable business and were smart, local media write.
Now, foreigners who want to climb the sacred mountain are given national Balinese clothes before the hike and sent to the temple for prayer. At the same time, the host companies do not hide their actions, calling them a necessary measure. De facto, there are no violations, since climbing is allowed for religious purposes. Local authorities have not yet responded to this.
Recall that the governor of the Vayan Koster resort issued a circular in the spring with a list of taboos and obligations for tourists vacationing in Bali. These included a ban on visiting sacred places, such as Mount Abang, Agung, Batur, and others, which are popular with travelers. At the same time, violators face fines, deportation, and even imprisonment.
The authorities took this step because of the systematic display of disrespect for foreign guests to the Balinese culture, customs, and traditions.
