In Bali, tourists have complicated the rental of motorbikes

Tourists in Bali have limited opportunities to rent motorbikes. As reported yesterday by The Bali Sun, Governor Wayan Coster announced at a press conference that the service to foreigners will be banned for all Balinese who are not members of a trade agency or vehicle rental association.

The publication noted that now holidaymakers will not be able to rent a motorcycle from the owner of the guest house or a local friend who has not received official permission. However, the release date has not been announced. Also, drivers must have an international certificate and relevant insurance documents.

Initially, it was proposed to completely ban the rental of vehicles, so that all foreigners hire private drivers to move around the island. Tourists should walk more and use cars to travel, the governor said. In addition, the island planned to expand the public transport network.

Motorbike rental owners have already called on the provincial authorities to cancel the new rental order, as for many it is the main source of income. And online motorcycle taxi services GoJek and Grab will not be able to serve tourists because they are not recognized as official travel agents.
