In Bali, it is now a criminal offense for unmarried tourists to share a room

The Bali authorities are preparing amendments to the Criminal Code, according to which the residence of unmarried tourists in the same room will be illegal.

The alarm was sounded by the local Indonesian Employers’ Association (Apindo). Her spokesperson notes that the rules could deter travelers. It is noted that the state should not interfere in private life, and even more so introduce criminal liability.

It turned out that within the framework of the bill it is assumed that for cohabitation without marriage in one room you can get up to 6 months in prison, and for an extramarital affair, the so-called holiday romance, you can go to jail for a whole year.

Supporters of the bill are confident that the innovation will not harm the tourism industry and will not infringe on the rights of tourists, since only close relatives can report extramarital relationships. The police allegedly will not consider applications from unauthorized persons.
