Thai Customs at airports will no longer conduct “humiliating” body searches of passengers who own expensive accessories and other luxury items. This was announced by the Deputy Director General of the Customs Department Phantong Loikulnanta.
According to him, such procedures often cause discomfort for travelers and often spoil the first impression of the kingdom.
“We will no longer conduct humiliating and intrusive body searches on guests, even if they are wearing designer handbags worth hundreds of thousands of baht or luxurious watches worth several million baht. The new policy applies to personal effects, not items imported for trade,” – assured the representative of the authorities.
Thus, incoming tourists can pass through the “green” corridor if they do not have items to be declared. This category includes “reasonable amounts” of personal items not exceeding 20,000 baht in total that are not prohibited, as well as a maximum of 200 cigarettes or 250 grams of tobacco and no more than 1 liter of alcoholic beverages.
