According to The Economic Times, the authorities of the state of Hawaii (USA) are planning to introduce a climate tax for tourists. Its size will be 25 dollars.
“The proposal for a new fee was a consequence of the fact that in countries popular with tourists, such as Italy, Greece, and New Zealand, the measure has been in effect for a long time and has shown its effectiveness,” the publication notes.
The government plans to use climate tax funds to protect the environment, such as keeping beaches clean and reducing the risk of wildfires.
According to local authorities, 9.5 million tourists vacationed in Hawaii in 2023.
