Greece and Cyprus close the sky for Russian air carriers

Two more countries of the European Union have closed their airspace to Russian airlines. Greece and Cyprus made such a decision in connection with the situation in Ukraine.

The Minister of Transport of Cyprus announced that the republic prohibits Russian air carriers from flying over the republic from February 27.

“From midnight, NOTAM was issued in order to implement the closure of airspace for Russian aircraft in accordance with the decision of the EU,” the message says.

In turn, the Greek authorities have also closed the sky for the Russian Federation since Sunday. The decision is expected to be made by May 27.

Recall that on the evening of February 27, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced a ban on Russian airlines from flying over the territory of the European Union. In addition, a similar decision was made by the Canadian authorities.

Also, foreign carriers are canceling flight programs in the Russian Federation, which is taking retaliatory steps by suspending flights to third countries.
