Germany risks closing in on a hard lockdown after the Netherlands – at least the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), which monitors the coronavirus epidemic in Germany and advises the government on the issue, has called for decisive action on the Omicron. And number one is expected to include “maximum restriction of social contacts”, and above all a ban on tourism.
According to German media, RKI noted that travel should be carried out only in mandatory cases. Moreover, experts of the institute expect that these and other measures will be implemented by mid-January.
According to the draft resolution, at least nightclubs and discos will be closed in Germany from December 28. From the same day, it is planned to allow a maximum of 10 vaccinated and recovered people to gather together in closed meetings indoors and outdoors.
At the same time, according to the institute’s estimates, by the beginning of January 2022, the Omicron variant will account for the majority of cases in Germany, and tens of thousands of cases will be registered every day.
It will be recalled that the Netherlands was the first European country to introduce a hard lockdown, closing everything except grocery stores and pharmacies and ordering its citizens “not to gather more than two.” At Christmas, they made a relaxation, allowing to receive four guests. However, it should be noted that the population reacted to this ban in a unique way – tourists obviously preferred to “sit” Lockdown in more friendly places. At least the airport of the Egyptian resort of Marsa Alam recently met Dutch charters with a full load, read the details at the link.
