“The economic crisis has affected everyone,” including millionaire clients of Turkey’s “elite” resorts, and now the Turkish tourism industry can only hope for Allah’s mercy. This is how a representative of the Turkbukyu resort in the Mugla province in the Bodrum region, where luxury hotels are concentrated, commented on the situation.
Earlier, every year since the beginning of the tourist season, “Hollywood stars and world-famous billionaires flocked to the resort.” Today, for the first time in thirty years, it remains empty. According to Ilhami Kilic, who has been working in the field of tourism management in the city for almost 30 years: “Tourists coming from megacities such as Ankara, Izmir and Istanbul have always filled hotels. Currently, we have not opened a restaurant or a beach club – because there are no visitors. We have not seen such a thing in this city for thirty years, the crisis has probably affected really important rich people, we are disappointed,” he said.
As the head of the Turkbukyu district, Yusel Ertugrul, added, not all tourist facilities were opened for the first time, and those who opened were disappointed. “The economic crisis has affected everyone, we could not imagine that there would be such a decline. May Allah make life easier for tourism professionals and traders,” he said.
