It is known that the explosion occurred on a gas pipeline in the Tuzla region during technical work. The consequences of the incident do not threaten the airport, however, the authorities decided to play it safe and temporarily closed the airport in the Asian part of Istanbul in order to ensure security.
All flights are redirected to Istanbul International Airport, located in the European part of the city.
