Ethiopian authorities have banned non-electric vehicles from entering the country. Transport Minister Alemu Sime announced that only electric vehicles would be allowed through.
The decision comes as Ethiopia spent nearly $6 billion importing fossil fuels last year, more than half of which was gasoline for cars.
At the moment, as the minister explained, work is underway to create charging stations for electric vehicles.
Let us recall that Norway plans to ban the sale of fuel-powered cars in 2025, and the USA, Canada, Japan, Singapore, and India intend to make a similar decision by 2040.
