In order to facilitate visits by Egyptians and tourists to the Temple of Abu Simbel, especially in connection with the upcoming celebration of the alignment of the Sun on February 22, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has completed the installation and operation of an electronic gate system in the temple area.
The ministry also launched a website for booking temple tickets online.
Khaled Sherif, Assistant Minister of Tourism and Antiquities for Digital Transformation, said the installation of the electronic gate system in the Abu Simbel Temple area is a continuation of the ticketing and electronic gate system project that the ministry plans to deploy at 32 archaeological sites across Egypt as a first phase. as part of the ministry’s digital transformation strategy.
As for buying tickets online, Sheriff said the move would facilitate temple visits, especially as more Egyptian visitors and tourists are expected to head to Abu Simbel to see the sun align on Tuesday.
He explained that e-tickets would help organize and facilitate visits and avoid any congestion that might occur in front of the ticket sales points.
It should also be noted that the ministry has made online ticket purchase available for the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization and the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir in preparation for making this feature available to all sites and museums open to the public in the coming period.
The electronic gate system has also been implemented in the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, the Salah al-Din Citadel in Cairo, the Pyramids of Giza, the Hurghada Museum and the Sharm el-Sheikh Museum.
