Egypt cancels paper COVID declaration for arrivals

Egypt is canceling paper declarations for COVID-19, which are filled out by newcomers to the country, Al Ahram reports. The government recently created a website visitegypt.gov.eg where travelers register their vaccination certificates two days before their arrival date.

“The purpose of abolishing the paper declaration is to make people’s lives easier,” Hosam Abdel Ghafar, a spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, told Al Ahram. “All travelers have to do is fill in the required details on the platform.”

The Ministry of Health also canceled the special disinfection of aircraft related to COVID-19 after each flight. Airlines are returning to normal sanitary procedures. In the event of a confirmed case of COVID-19 on board, the aircraft will be disinfected in accordance with the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO).

The decision to relax COVID rules was made against the backdrop of an improvement in the epidemiological situation in Egypt. The number of COVID-19 infections and coronavirus deaths continues to decline.

Egypt, which relies on tourism as a vital source of foreign exchange, is taking steps to support a sector that is fighting Russia’s war in Ukraine.
