Disgusting to the point of nausea: the bars at the famous resort collected unconsumed drinks from tourists and resold them

The scandal broke out at the famous resort of Kavos on the island of Corfu in Greece. There, it suddenly became clear that the bars at this renowned resort were massively collecting unused drinks from tourists and reselling them. “It’s disgusting to the point of nausea!” – writes the Greek press.

An uproar was raised by the independent tax authority AADE, which was joined by vigilant local police. The police raided establishments, suspecting them of tax evasion and illegal alcohol trade — and in just a few days, disgusting details were revealed and several bars may be closed at once.

“Bars were only suspected of tax evasion and selling smuggled or adulterated alcohol, but what we discovered was deeply disturbing. At least 26 caterers negligently issued receipts for transactions totaling a staggering $286,782. We found seven bars where drinks are served without marking lot numbers,” the inspectors said.

The details turned out to be terrible and nauseating – when these drinks were sent for examination to the Chief Chemical Administration of the island, it turned out to be a bizarre mixture. It was further discovered that local bartenders were collecting unconsumed drinks in canisters, storing them in barrels, and then brazenly reselling them as shots to unsuspecting patrons.

At the same time, the Greek press only writes that these bars were “closed for 48 hours and fined large amounts.”
