According to Bloomberg, the canals in Venice have almost dried up in recent days due to strong low tides and lower water levels.
The water level in the canals dropped by half a meter, which prevented the movement of boats and gondolas.
Forecasters at Centro Maree claim that this situation resulted from low tides and a lack of rain in the region over the past few months.
Bloomberg recalls that in recent years the situation has often been reversed – strong tides have become more frequent in Venice. Thus, the most significant surge in more than half a century was observed in 2019, it caused damage to the city of a billion euros. After that, the Venice authorities began to work on the MOSE project, which is designed to reduce damage from natural disasters. The work could be completed by the end of this year.
