Since March 13, the aviation authorities of Bermuda have suspended the operation of all aircraft of Russian airlines that are registered in the archipelago.
As reported on the Bermuda Civil Aviation Authority (BCAA) website, the cancellation of the airworthiness certificate takes effect for any aircraft in the air at 23:59 UTC on March 12, 2022 immediately after landing. The agency explained its decision by saying that, due to the BCAA sanctions, “it cannot be sure that these aircraft are airworthy.”
According to the consulting agency IBA, 745 out of 1,367 aircraft of Russian carriers are registered in Bermuda.
Recall that since February 26, sanctions have been introduced that prohibit the supply of civil aircraft and spare parts to Russia, as well as their maintenance and insurance. In addition, they oblige lessors to terminate their existing contracts with Russian airlines by the end of March.
We add: on the same day, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) recommended that its ticket agents not conduct transactions through 24 Russian banks, against which sanctions have been imposed. It is clarified that they can still buy tickets from foreign airlines, but the payment must be made in an unsanctioned bank.
