Bali is strengthening health controls for passengers arriving in the province. Travelers and crew members will be screened for symptoms of monkeypox, cases of which have already been reported in other parts of the country, local media reported.
The airport’s director general, Handy Heyudhitiawan, told reporters that to prevent the spread of the virus, tourists will undergo thermometry upon arrival.
If a high body temperature or signs of infection are detected, the guest will first be examined by a doctor, and if enlarged lymph nodes or a rash are detected, he will be sent to the hospital for further examination.
Fever is one of the earliest symptoms of monkeypox and Nipah virus, for which airport staff are also on high alert.
The management of Denpasar Airport emphasizes that monitoring of arriving citizens will not affect the time spent at the airport. Passengers only need to pass by a special thermal imaging camera.
Moreover, in the coming weeks, border crossing times will accelerate. The terminal will have 90 new automatic passport verification counters. At the same time, the modernization work will not in any way interfere with the usual process of immigration control at the airport.
