In the new tourist season, 28 beaches of the three most popular resorts of the Balearic Islands (Spain) have banned smoking.
According to The Sun, holidaymakers have already been warned about increasing the number of “smoke-free zones” as part of a regional plan to improve people’s health, develop family tourism and tackle cigarette butts left on the sand.
In particular, four beaches in Majorca and five more in Ibiza were added to the smoke-free list this summer.
The anti-smoking campaign started in the Balearic Islands in 2019 with just two beaches, and with nine beaches joining the list this year, it has now reached 28 – on the beaches of Mallorca, Ibiza, and Menorca.
Similar schemes are already in place or planned for other popular tourist destinations in Spain.
