The NL Times portal writes that in Amsterdam on May 25, a ban on the use of light drugs in the historic center of the city came into force.
So, smoking marijuana is prohibited in the Red Light District, Dam Square, Damrak Street, and Newmarket Square.
The ban applies to both tourists and residents. Violators face a fine of 100 euros.
At the same time, smoking is still allowed on the terraces of coffee shops and inside establishments.
Amsterdam City Hall believes that the innovation will minimize the problems caused by drug use in public places.
