From the first of October, the state of emergency due to covid will finally be lifted in Thailand and the local headquarters, i.e. the Center for the Control of the Situation with Covid-19 (CCSA), will be dissolved. According to local media, for the first time since the start of the pandemic, all tourists will need to enter Thailand from October 1 is their passport and possibly a visa.
“The decision to end the state of emergency has been in the works for some time and was finally confirmed today by the CCSA at a meeting hosted by Acting Prime Minister of Thailand Prawit Wongsuwan. Today, the Covid Task Force unanimously agreed to end Thailand’s state of emergency as the situation steadily improves. The CCSA has completed its task and will not meet again,” local media reported.
The CCSA, they remind, was formed by emergency orders of the then Prime Minister of Thailand, Prayuth Chan-Och. The decree gave the government “unbridled powers” to take any measures to “protect the public interest” and fight the coronavirus, which has left Thailand struggling to survive under lockdowns.
Also, the media reports that starting in October, the coronavirus will be reclassified as an “infectious disease under surveillance” and not as a “dangerous infectious disease.” As a result, Thailand hopes for a more active influx of tourists.
