A French village has banned the use of smartphones in public places

According to The Guardian, residents of the Seine-Port commune in France, 40 km from Paris, voted to ban the use of smartphones in public places. You can only make calls from phones on the streets.

“We are talking about addictions to specific things in smartphones, be it games or social networks, when we can no longer take our eyes off the screens,” says the mayor of the commune, Vincent Paul-Petit.

Using smartphones for games, correspondence, and logging into social networks is now prohibited while walking down the street, relaxing in the park, in shops, cafes and restaurants, and on school grounds.

However, the police do not have the right to stop or fine people who use a smartphone on the streets, because there is no corresponding law at the national level.

The commune also decided that if the parents sign an agreement that the child will not receive a smartphone until the age of 15, the mayor’s office will provide minors with an old-fashioned telephone for making calls.
